If a picture says a thousand words, what does a video do ??? If you haven’t got a video on your site it’s time to get one. Not only does it personalise your website and introduce you to prospective clients, it also helps you with your search engine rankings – Google likes to see websites providing useful services, and gives you brownie points accordingly. Videos start at about £150 for some company shots and a voice over, but if you want you can do your own and it’s free ! Have a look at June Taylor’s video which she did herself: ‘Meet June‘, … you too could be a star !

Google has been updating it’s search algorithm regularly for some years now, in it’s constant attempt to improve ranking accuracy and relevancy.

Rather like hurricanes the algorithms are named alphabetically.

The latest algo is named Penguin,  launched  in April 2012, in particular to weed out websites considered to be spamming its search results by buying links or obtaining them through link networks designed specifically to boost Google rankings. If you feel that your site might have some of these dubious links then you may want to use the Google disavow links tool, where you can inform Google of unwelcome links that could be affecting your ranking.
